Antique Victorian Gold Filled Synthetic Ruby Shield Shaped Locket with 24" Guard Chain / ca. 1890s

$195.00

Antique gold filled Victorian shield shaped locket with etched scroll details around the frame. A triangular synthetic ruby set into the center of the locket adds a pop of powerful color. The locket opens via the top (hinge on the bottom), and reveals an old photograph of woman with curly hair wearing a polka dot dress.

The locket measures 5/8" wide x 1-1/8" tall including the bail. It is hung on a 24" gold filled guard chain with a dog clip. It is good condition with normal wear consistent with its age. It does have some tarnish around the hinge and top opening, as well as on the inside of the locket (see photos).

Gold filled means it was made of base metal but with a layer of gold applied to the surface. It has much more gold content than gold plated jewelry. This is why this piece still looks so great after over 100 years of existence :-).
